If I could make a required reading for every person who has a vagina, The Vagina Bible would be it. Dr. Jen Gunter does a great job detailing every detail of the vagina and the vulva.
However, I had a really hard time getting past her opinion of food as medicine for health, especially for vaginal health. Food for health is more than eating pineapple to make your vagina sweeter. I mean, come on Dr. Gunter.
“It’s a vagina, not a piña colada.”
Dr. Jen Gunter
Dr. Gunter clearly doesn’t have an appreciate for anything natural, holistic, or Gwyneth Paltrow. The book is very mainstream when it comes to caring for your vulva and vagina but the truth that Dr. Gunter and I can agree on is that your vagina and your vulva are a self-cleaning oven.
She warns (and I agree) that you don’t need all the pink puffy products marketed to you to keep your lady bits clean. Doing so can create more havoc by throwing your natural pH off balance. Not so good.
While reading the book, I couldn’t help but wonder what kind of drama happened between Gwyneth Paltrow and Dr. Gunter? was it your typical modern medicine versus natural medicine? I had to do some digging.
What I came across was a long history
of not playing nice in the sandbox. Apparently, GOOP
minds their crunchy business while Dr. Gunter mocks GOOP and it’s founder, Gwyneth Paltrow. Somehow, I am not surprised! I mean, I don’t buy into the eggs either. They do make pretty pictures, though.
So to sum up my impression of the book, The Vagina Bible by Dr. Gunter
, I think it’s up to you to take what you want but leave the rest.
I want to hear from you!
